I assert that the fact that the Holocaust happened cannot be proved either, because it cannot be repeated. It is only a theory, and therefore only a guess. Therefore, I hope you agree that the Holocaust is equally likely to have happened and not to have happened. After all, they are both just theories that cannot be repeated and verified by experiment.

And, of course, under your - or anyone else’s - criteria of what constitutes a science, creation or intelligent design surely cannot be verified by experiment.

So where does that leave you?

Evolutionary theory can be corroborated in the same way tha the Holocaust having happened can be corroborated: by retrodicition. We can look to evidence of the past and find out whether things we find there are congruent with (or incongruent with) the theory of evolution by natural/sexual slection.

And your side loses that battle every time!

(Of course, we can also see evolution in action in today’s world, but I wouldn’t think you read much on current developments.)

You are proven wrong on this score every day, and one need look no further than the AIDS virus, which is one of the quickest adapting viruses known. New mutations quite often (unfortunately for us) lead to stronger and more impermeable strands of the virus. Too often, new adaptations are hardly “unbeneficial” to the virus.

Paleontology is only one field of biology. There is also microbiology which is the most prodigious subdiscipline going right now. One need go no further than your friendly Barnes and Noble science section to find many a popular book on genetics found in the “Evolutionary Biology” section. Ever read Ridley’s “Genome”? Dawkins “The Selfish Gene?” James Watson’s “DNA?”

Actually it is the creationists who spend most of their times moaning about fossils. Apparently, there just aren’t enough transitional forms. Evolutionists talk about bones too, but much more than that.

I despair of injecting facts into the morass of error which was the previous comment (Mutations are always deleterious? The eye couldn’t have evolved? Evolution is only a “theory”? Aside from all that, however: This post is not even about the evidence on evolutionary biology. It’s about the evidence on people being penalized for what they believe and/or their teaching. Our hapless commenter (see also here) apparently wanders the net looking for places to vent, regardless of whether it has anything to do with post they’re venting on.

Second…sorry, it’s just ludicrous. Every theoretical “jump” from one form to another involved MULTIPLE perfect improvements in the genes. If you have ever seen anyone born with a gene out of place, you will be honest enough to admit you get: disease, mutation, retardation, etc.

In the ANIMAL kingdom, before human intellect (and human intellect ALONE), any such difference causes an animal to be rejected from the flock or killed outright.

How many gene mutations were necessary to create an eye? Before ALL of those mutations were in place, the effect would have been DETRIMENTAL. In a person, LOSE one gene from the proper genetic structure of an eye, and you get a useless lump of flesh that wastes energy. In the evolutionary theory, we are supposed to believe that some creature survived millions and millions of years while miraculously, and very occasionally, having a lucky gene mutation or ADDITION that would bring the creature closer to an eye…instead of the USUAL choice of expelling the mutant or killing it…or simply having it die of it’s own accord because of the useless lump of flesh inhibiting it.

And we are expected to believe this happened (positive improvement!!!!! by gene MUTATION) millions and millions of times until the simplest life (which incidentally would even have the genetic ability to reproduce…that being a COMPLEX ability) became human.
